Bridget Awosika

Nigerian-born Bridget Awosika is a Parsons School of Design alumnus and former intern for international fashion houses Giorgio Armani and Donna Karan. Today, as the Creative Director of her namesake label, which she launched in 2010, Awosika has crafted a brand built out of a desire to extend African design to an global audience—a celebration of the continent and her own West African identity.

Awosika’s stylish silhouettes are recognized for their modern and refined sensibility, portrayed in her use of simple, stark fabrics with fluid, asymmetrical lines. A fierce attention to detail is palpable within her work, her every piece serving as a rich example of considered, artisanal design. The label’s sources of inspiration are myriad, its designer taking influence from aspects of architecture, and modern art to create the softly feminine yet decidedly dramatic designs she’s become known for. The designer has been praised by (https://www.vogue.co.uk/gallery/lagos-fashion-week "Bridget Awosika British Vogue") for her contribution to African design and minimalist approach: “In spite of stereotypes to the contrary, authentic African design doesn't have to rely on boundless passion or jubilant vibes as its sole source of inspiration.” The label launched its first flagship boutique in Lagos, Nigeria in late 2019.
