Biography
Founded in 2018 by Tina Akerele, Kkerelé is a Lagos-based footwear label shaped by an interest in process, material, and the quiet intimacy of everyday objects. Working across unisex styles, the brand approaches shoes as both functional design and cultural artefact, drawing from the long lineage of leather craftsmanship across the continent.
Its silhouettes are deliberately pared back, allowing construction and proportion to take focus. Sandals and shoes are developed through an iterative process, often embracing asymmetry and subtle shifts in form that challenge conventional ideas of balance in footwear. Each piece is made by hand in Lagos in collaboration with local artisans, using traditional techniques that prioritise durability and tactile quality.
Operating on a made-to-order and small-batch basis, Kkerelé avoids excess production while maintaining a close, responsive relationship to its materials and makers. The result is footwear that invites wear over time, shaped as much by use as by design.
